  • Position Summary

    WESTMED Practice Partners is currently recruiting for a Health Information Management (HIM) Indexing Associate. This position will be based in our Charlotte, NC office. The HIM Indexing Associate will be responsible for indexing documents into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The HIM Associate identifies appropriate document type and indexing elements, and retrieves information from a variety of computer systems to complete indexing tasks.This position offers competitive pay as well as potential year-end bonus.

    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities


    • The Health Information Management (HIM) Department’s primary responsibility is to provide easy record access while ensuring privacy, and enhancing the patient experience.
    • The HIM Indexing Associate is responsible for analyzing documents and applying critical thinking to determine the appropriate document type and elements. Ability to examine and classify specific documents as sensitive and lock documents as needed; proofs documents for accuracy and consistency.
    • The HIM Indexing Associate will foster working relationships with the HIM team and other departments to ensure timely resolution related to any issues with daily operations.



    Required Qualifications

    General Qualification Standards/Education Requirements



    • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate Degree preferred.
    • Associate Degree in HIM preferred.
    • RHIT credential a plus.


    • Minimum of one year working in a health information management department, large outpatient clinic, or acute care facility required.
    • RHIT/RHIA credentials or recent graduate of an accredited program is considered in lieu of relevant experience.

    Performance Standards for Specialty Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • This role requires remarkable attention to detail skills.
    • Experience using basic computer programs and office equipment and good typing skills required. 
    • Strong customer service skills, organizational skills, ability to multitask required.
    • Must be able to read, write and understand English.
    • Strong organizational skills, able to multitask and great attention to detail required. 
    • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
    • Work independently and as a member of a team.
