  • Position Summary

    We are currently seeking a full time Laboratory Assistant for our Laboratory Department at the White Plains office. The schedule is Monday – Friday:  2:00 pm – 10:30 pm. 


    The Laboratory Assistant is accountable for the accuracy and reliability of all Anatomic Pathology specimens accessioning under his/her supervision.  Both patient identification and specimen site must be accurately entered on a timely manner and be able to work with minimal supervision.   This position also fills surgical and Cytology slides and blocks must be done on a daily basis with precision to make sure the material is filed according to year and number, as stated onto the block/slides and processing of GYN samples meets section standards, verifying patient ID at all times.

    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities


    • Ensures that all accessioning performed under his/her supervision is according to established, approved procedures and quality control policies.
    • Accessions all Pathology and Cytology specimens with proper verification of specimen and requisition information.
    • Answer Lab telephone and direct calls accordingly.
    • Makes daily AP specimen collection rounds within 210 (10am, 12 noon, 2pm, and 4pm).
    • Mail slide for consultation and sends specimens as needed, with proper follow up to make sure material has been received..
    • Analyze daily AP Accession Log to make sure that all specimen received are accounted for, and retrieve any missing specimen from provider offices.
    • Pulls slide from files as needed for patient’s 2nd. Opinion etc.
    • Prepare GYN specimens, making sure patient identification is maintained at all times.
    • Fax to Medical Records all consults and reference lab reports that are not online.
    • Retrieve all AP records such as slide, blocks etc. prior 3 months from send out.
    • Complies with all WMG policies and OSHA regulations related to safety, cleanliness and infection control.
    • Performs other ancillary duties as directed by competent authority within the AP section.

    Required Qualifications


    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Medical Terminology a plus
    • Ability to deal with confidential information with the utmost discretion. Interpersonal skill necessary to deal courteously and effectively with administration, peers and the public.
    • Sufficient technical ability to be able to troubleshoot independently and knowledge to know when to ask for assistance.
    • Courteously and effectively with administration, peers and the public.
