  • Position Summary

    Westmed Medical Group is currently recruiting a per diem Histotechnogist to work in our Moh's Surgery department at our Purchase, NY site.  This position schedule varies and will provide PTO coverage.  

     

    The Laboratory Technologist is accountable for the accuracy and reliability of all testing run under his/her supervision, both patient and Q.C. material; and performing accurately tissue sections for pathological interpretation in a timely manner.

    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

    • Ensures that all testing performed under his/her supervision is according to established approved procedures and quality control policies.
    • Accession specimens as needed, maintaining specimen chain of custody at all times.
    • Ensures that all testing is done under optimal conditions (ie. Instruments functioning properly; reagents in good condition and proper technique followed.)
    • Performs Hematoxylin and Eosin stains and evaluates for inconsistencies and confirms and/or correct before releasing slides.
    • Change stains accordingly making sure the best stain quality is rendered.
    • Maintains all temperature charts, and section QC is performed according to job duties.
    • Performs preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting procedures on all Instruments.
    • Participates in the evaluation of new products and procedures as required/requested, including Proficiency Surveys as needed.
    • Consults with provider, staff physicians, and other personnel as necessary.
    • Participates in the Quality Control Program for reagents and tests as per section protocol making sure to check all reagent dates prior to use.
    • Knowledgeable in LIS applications for Histology to perform job duties.
    • Performs other ancillary duties as directed by competent authority.

    Required Qualifications

    • Education/Certifications/Licenses: HT degree or equivalent Certification as a lab technologist under CLlA NY State licenses a plus.
    • Moh's training required
    • Performance Standards for Specialty Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge. Skills and Abilities -Broad knowledge of tests performed and equipment utilized in the laboratory.
    • Ability to deal with confidential information with the utmost discretion. Interpersonal skill necessary to deal courteously and effectively with administration. peers and the public.
    • Sufficient technical ability to be able to troubleshoot independently and knowledge to know when to ask for assistance.
