WESTMED Practice Partners is currently recruiting for a Health Information Management (HIM) Release of Information Associate (ROI). This position will be based in our Charlotte, NC office. The HIM Release of Information Associate will be responsible for processing any request from patients, physicians, insurance companies and law offices regarding the release of protected health information. This position offers competitive pay as well as potential year-end bonus.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
The Health Information Management (HIM) Department’s primary responsibility is to provide easy record access while ensuring privacy, and enhancing the patient experience.
The HIM Release of Information Associate is responsible for processing any requests from patients and third party requestors regarding release of protected health information.
The HIM ROI Associate will perform release of information duties in accordance with HIPAA, State, and Federal Law. In addition the HIM ROI Associate will be responsible reviewing authorizations to ensure accurate validity according to federal and state privacy regulations as well as determining appropriate fees for copies of records based on HITECH, federal, and state guidelines. The HIM ROI Associate will foster working relationships with the HIM Department and other departments to ensure timely resolution related to any issues with daily operations.
General Qualification Standards/Education Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate Degree preferred.
Associate Degree in HIM preferred.
RHIT credential a plus.
Minimum of one year working in a health information management department, large outpatient clinic, or acute care facility required.
Experience in release of information strongly preferred.
Performance Standards for Specialty Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong knowledge of updated HIPAA and HITECH guidelines required.
Experience using basic computer programs and office equipment and good typing skills required.
Strong customer service skills, organizational skills, ability to multitask required.
Must be able to read, write and understand English.
Strong organizational skills, able to multitask and great attention to detail required.
Knowledge of release of information procedures and medical terminology preferred.
Work independently and as a member of a team.
Bilingual Spanish preferred.
