  • Position Summary

    Westmed Practice Partners is currently recruiting for a fulltime Purchasing Agent for the Purchasing department.

    Candidate must have healthcare experience.The Purchasing Agent is responsible for effectively utilizing a cost-effective purchasing and inventory control system.  Coordinates purchasing activities with user departments to maintain optimum inventory and buy levels. Reviews purchase requisitions for accuracy and completeness, reviews requisitions, reviews, or holds requisition for appropriate approval. Responsible for identifying cost saving opportunities, processing improvements, and negotiating contractual agreements.  Maintain constant open lines of communication with all departments within the company.  Communicates with supplier changes in specifications, change orders, quantities, and adjustments. Contacts carriers to arrange for transportation of purchases.


    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities


    • Purchase of supplies, equipment and material for the clinical and operational areas including the review/processing of purchase orders.  Reviews vendor catalogs/offerings, seeks bids and negotiates best prices, discounts, terms and quality.
    • Analyzes, identifies, and communicates information regarding purchase orders utilizing in-network vendors; researches, and resolves problems relating to purchasing issues.
    • Review purchase agreement and large purchase orders, recommending approval to upper management as necessary.
    • Work with departmental representation to ensure consistency of quality products and to control the variation of products.
    • Verifies and inputs vendor data into system; develops reports to track vendors and category spending for the organization.
    • Maintain Computerized inventory system.
    • Interact with vendors, buyers and inter –departmental managers throughout the purchasing process.
    • Provides assistances to A/P clerk staff and provides feedback.
    • Completes monthly and quarterly reports along with dashboards
    • Perform other duties as requested.
    • Maintain strictest confidentiality

    Required Qualifications



    • Requires Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration
    • 3-5 years of experience working as a buyer in healthcare. 
    • Physician practice buying experience is ideal. 
    • Would consider an experienced Certified Medical Assistant to train in the position.
    • Workday experience a plus.

    Performance Standards for Specialty Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Knowledge of purchasing and inventory principles. 
    • Knowledge of how to operate computerized purchasing, inventory and cost systems related to medical equipment and supplies. 
    • Ability to establish/maintain cooperative working relationship with staff and vendors. 
    • Ability to analyze technical data in suppliers’ proposals.
    • Requires good communication and negotiation skills. 
    • Must have ability to excel in a deadline-oriented setting while managing multiple, complex projects.
