  • Position Summary

    The Rye Ambulatory Surgery Center is looking for  a full time Day Porter with experience in housekeeping in a health care setting for the Rye, New York site.

     

    The Day Porter is responsible for daily housekeeping activities to ensure clean, sanitary, orderly and attractive conditions where cleaning is not provided within the outside contracted services.

    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

    • Checks with Facilities Supervisor or designee on a daily basis to confer on special cleaning needs, problems and work orders.
    • Ensures floors, walls and other building areas are free from dirt, dust, and other debris. Ensures outside trash containers are emptied.
    • Assembles cleaning supplies and equipment and cleans floors, rooms and offices following established schedules and methods. Replaces disposables.
    • Shampoos, and vacuums carpets for cleaning and bacteria control, removes spots from carpets.
    • Assists in cleaning emergency spills as observed or requested. Sanitizes and sterilizes exam rooms and procedure room areas.
    • Washes ceilings, walls floors, lights, windows, fixtures, mirrors, counters, office equipment and vents.  
    • Dry and wet mops floors in uncarpeted office and rooms, scrubs and buffs floor with rotary / automatic machines.
    • Moves furniture to clean. Dusts surfaces, damp-wipes furniture, and polishes metal and porcelain fixtures in bathrooms.
    • Notifies supervisor when housekeeping supplies are running low and assist with supplies order replacements.
    • Maintains equipment in clean and orderly manner, restock supplies as needed.
    • Identifies and reports any unsafe / unsanitary conditions to Supervisor.
    • During inclement weather assists with outside maintenance tasks such as shoveling and sanding.
    • Assist with mailroom activities, i.e., picking up the mail, receiving packages, deliveries, etc.
    • Maintains the organization and cleanliness of the housekeeping storage areas.
    • Maintains regular schedule and communicates any temporary changes to immediate supervisor.
    • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED preferred
    • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
    • 1-2 Years’ Experience in Housekeeping in a health care setting
    • Experience in the daily cleaning of a sub-sterile and sterile environment
    • Able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
    • Team oriented yet independent employee to work in is a fast paced Ambulatory Surgery Center.
    • Able to work collaboratively with all members of the surgical team to provide safe and effective patient care.
    • ​ Excellent communication skills.
