Position Summary

Westmed Medical Group is currently recruiting for a full-time Clinical Laboratory Manager for the Purchase, NY site. The schedule is Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.


The Clinical Laboratory Manager will manage the daily responsibilities of the Clinical Laboratory, including the evening shift. The Manager will ensure the specimens are handled properly and patient identification is obtained accurately. Under his/her supervision, both patient and Q.C. material; are performed accurately for providers interpretation and in a timely manner. Assures the delivery of quality department /clinical services in accordance with established Westmed and regulatory/accreditation agency standards.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Assures the delivery of quality department /clinical services in accordance with established Westmed and regulatory/accreditation agency standards.
  • Responsible and accountable for the overall operations of the Chemistry Departments. Overall operations of the department include development of department goals and objectives that are consistent with the Westmed mission, the management of personnel, preparing/monitoring of and accountability for the department budgets.
  • Assures employee compliance with Westmed policies and procedures
  • Assures that employee competency and education requirements are satisfied as per Westmed policy and regulatory agencies.
  • Assures the provision of a safe employee/patient environment.
  • Maintains knowledge related to the operations of the departments.
  • Works collaboratively with all levels of Westmed interdisciplinary team and promotes the team concept within their department, maintaining an open line of communication with sites Laboratory Directors (Pathologists).
  • Trains and assists technologists with specialized tests; interprets results for physicians and advises on follow-up tests, as needed.
  • Demonstrates positive customer service, fosters positive employee relations and assures that staff adheres to the Customer Service Standards.
  • Is supportive of Westmed initiatives and projects and functions as a positive change agent.
  • Promotes a positive and professional image and are a role model, coach, mentor and resource for staff and peers.
  • Reviews all technical and validation procedures performed in areas of responsibility and maintain explanation of such in manual form.
  • Prepares and submits Laboratory Quality Assurance, Accreditations, and Safety reports as per department policy.
  • Writes and revises all section procedure manuals as needed.
  • Prepare and approve section payroll and orders chemistry supplies as needed.
  • Evaluates and implements new instrumentation and methodologies.
  • Ensures that maintenance procedures are performed as needed and are well documented.
  • Performs technical duties as needed.
  • Monitors turn-around-time for applicable Chemistry, and Reference Laboratory tests.
  • Coordinates and maintains all laboratory computer reports formats.
  • Is actively involved in assisting with the development of effective utilization of laboratory/computer software to include instrument interfacing, tests, worksheets and report formatting.
  • Troubleshoots instrument malfunction when needed.
  • Maintains effective communication within and outside the Laboratory Department.
  • Interviews, hires, evaluate, counsels and terminate employees as per Westmed policy.
  • Conducts monthly staff meetings to update staff and/or address department issues and records meeting minutes for all staff.
  • Utilizes multiple methodologies to communicate information.
  • Complies with all WMG policies and OSHA regulations related to safety, cleanliness and infection control.
  • Develop and submits department goals, and objectives as required by the Division Administrator.
  • Performs other ancillary duties as directed by competent authority.

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree and Certification as a Laboratory Technologist under C.L.I.A.
  • NY State license required
  • 3-5 years management experience required
