Position Summary

Westmed Medical Group is hiring a full-time Pharmacist to be based out of the Purchase, New York office location.  Position schedule is Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm.  The Pharmacist will be responsible to fulfill oversight/audit responsibility for narcotics at Rye ASC; participate in review of medication best practices and respond to physician inquiries regarding new medications and medication alternatives; oversight/audit responsibility for sample medications, patient “brown bag medications”, emergency carts; and participate in both staff and patient education and medication adherence projects.  The pharmacist will be responsible to assist as needed with all chemotherapy and biotherapy medication ordering, purchase, mixing and administration.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders; detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
  • Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies; advising interventions.
  • Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing clinical workflow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.
  • Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals; counseling patients on drug therapies.
  • Develops WMG’s staff's pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs and assists in training clinical staff.
  • Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration by maintaining inventory records, monitoring expiration dates of medications, removing outdated and damaged drugs from the inventory; supervising the work results of support personnel; maintaining current registration; studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; advising management on needed actions.
  • Protects patients and staff by adhering to infection-control protocols.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintains pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Participates in the pharmacy and therapeutics Committee, analyzing the addition of new drugs to inventory that add value, meeting the current standard of care, in a cost effective manner.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Current New York state licensure required, PharmD is preferred
  • Two to three years of hospital or infusion pharmacy experience, or one to two years of pharmacy residency preferred
  • Experience with mixing chemotherapy and other medications
  • Experience with controlled substance management
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with patient medication adherence reports, quality improvement, patient/staff education and cost containment preferred
