  • Position Summary

    Westmed Medical Group has a position for a Family Nurse Practitioner Lactation Consultant in the Purchase, NY.  This position is open to be part-time or full-time.  International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is required.  The FNP assures safe, efficient, high quality and customer oriented management to the breastfeeding mother/baby dyad.  This is done in collaboration with a licensed physician qualified in the specialty involved and in accordance with an approved written practice agreement and protocols.

    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

    -Performs a comprehensive assessment of the mother and baby developing an evidence-based treatment plan

    -Provides health education and teaching, to patients/families/staff

    -Communicates via our EMR to their corresponding PCP, and with outside providers, refers patient to other healthcare professionals as necessary

    -Will adhere to the specialty specific protocols, best practices, quality and organizational indicators, Nursing care is based on current literature and research

    -Will be responsible for using the proper coding and billing codes

    -Manage women/babies with high risk conditions that impact lactation
    -Evaluates implemented interventions and modifies care according to the evaluation.

    -Documents interventions and modifications to the plan of care in an accurate and timely manner
    Provides breastfeeding education, both one-on-one and in group settings, to discuss the advantages of breastfeeding, educate mothers on medical or other problems that might be encountered during nursing, and explain the nutritional needs of nursing women and babies
    -Works collaboratively with the supervising provider


    Required Qualifications

    -Licensed Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) for New York State
    -International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
    -Experience managing women/babies with high risk conditions that impact lactation
    -Excellent computer and customer service skills
